David Heddon

David is a pro-active and enthusiastic change and project management professional with experience across the financial services industry gained in management consultancy and departmental line roles.

He has a track record of making change happen on troubled or complex projects and programmes and driving through to delivery of identified business benefits often set in a broader and inter-related business context. He has an ability to establish clarity and momentum through realistic plans, resource deployment and a focus on dealing with impediments and issues coupled with strong inter-personal and communication skills enable effective senior stakeholder engagement.

David has experience of implementing a broad range of change including, merger / acquisitions, large scale IT implementations, new business launches, outsourcing and business reorganisation in key roles including; programme / change management, workshop design and facilitation, incl. executive level and large scale events, departmental line and cost centre management, and quality assurance.

Principal assignments demonstrating this experience include:

  • Led the facilitation and report preparation of due diligence for a major Investment Management outsource provider on the IT, Operations and Performance Measurement/Client Reporting functions of the business being acquired by one of the outsourcer's principal clients.
  • Programme Director for the implementation of Eagle Pace as the central repository of security, benchmarks and fund information at a UK Investment Manager. Management of multi-million budget, 20+ staff including external consultants, reporting to steering committee chaired by COO.
  • Head of Investment Management Systems as an interim management placement for a UK Investment Manager. 70+ staff. Prime responsibilities were to "rightsize" following completion of major project work and migrate to a maintenance centric department. Implemented new organisation and service delivery arrangements, established revised budgets and managed staff exits enabling smooth transition to ongoing line management
  • Review of a major change programme of IT enabled and organisational change across the Investment business of leading UK asset manager. Recommendations led to client progressing wide ranging changes leading to significant improvements in areas of programme definition / governance, resource scheduling, project accounting, quality assurance and communications. 
  • Assignment to the UK brokerage business of a leading UK bank to assess the market opportunities for outsourcing broking and custody operations. Responsible for the management of a mixed team working to extremely tight timescales. Achievements included rapid mobilisation, preparation of detailed current situation analysis, RFI documentation, identification and engagement of third parties with NDAs and information exchange, evaluation of proposals and steering committee presentations.
  • Determination and assessment of options for the operational consolidation of European businesses for the asset management arm of a prestigious UK investment bank. Responsible for the management of the joint consulting and client team in the exploration and cost/benefit analysis of options identified using a hypothesis driven approach that "logically" led to a shortlist of options for detailed analysis. Led the preparation of interim and final outputs and its presentation to the executive in a tightly time-boxed period resulting in a clear decision on future direction.
  • Programme manager for the successful merger of two leading UK investment management operations.
  • Assignment to a new funds supermarket start up in the project management of the design of operations to support the new business model including organisational design, staffing and skills requirements including relationships with third party administrator, documentation of business processes, and overall preparations for handover to newly appointed BaU management
